Home > Eyebrows
Causes of eyebrow loss include
- Physical trauma.
- Systemic or local disease.
- Excessive plucking, typically to reshape the eyebrow.
- Trichotillomania (TTM), or self-inflicted obsessive compulsive plucking.
- Medical or surgical treatments like radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or the surgical removal of a tumor.
- Genetics can cause eyebrow loss
Eyebrows are an important structure in the face, that can give that lively young look. The female eyebrow is typically more cephalic than the orbital rim, with a mild to moderate arched shape that is most cephalic at a point superior to the lateral limbus . The male eyebrow is typically lower and less arched with a straighter appearance. In Asian patients, scalp hair is actually thicker than eyebrow hair, whereas in Caucasians the opposite is true—eyebrow hairs have a larger diameter than scalp hair.
Depending upon the case, hair from scalp or body can be transplanted to the eyebrows. Scalp hair if transplanted, might grow lengthy, and might require frequent trimming. Some cases even show normal length eyebrow growth, showing the so called recipient site dominance effect.
